History
The John Deere B was introduced in 1935 as a smaller, more affordable version of the A. It has been described as a 2/3 scale version of the A. This is one of the iconic Johnny Poppers that gets its name from the well known 2 cylinder engine. The large displacement of the 2 cylinder engines, the low operating RPM, and the uneven firing interval gives the John Deere 2 cylinder a distinctive pop-pop sound. The B was a general purpose tractor used for plowing, planting, and cultivating. John Deere advertised their tractors as being the most cost efficient tractors to operate because they were built to run on cheap fuels and the B was no exception. At the time it was introduced the B would be competing against tractors such as the Farmall F-20 and the Allis Chalmers WC. In 1939 it received a styled design with more sheet metal and more horsepower thanks to a bigger engine and another update in 1947 which added more power and more features like hydraulics. Production of the John Deere B ended in 1952 and was replaced by the model 50.
